2024 Grand Finals Information

We are excited to see you at Grand Finals at the North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center (also known as the Charleston Area Convention Center.) Please see the information below for important information regarding this event. As always, we offer free livestream of all performances and awards ceremonies.

The venue charges $10/day for parking on site.

Schedule:

A tentative schedule is available online and is subject to change based on the number of entries received. A final schedule outline will be posted at least 3 weeks prior to the event. Detailed schedules will be emailed to all studios approximately 10 days prior to the event.

Deadline and payment:

A 50 percent deposit is due one month in advance and full payment is due 2 weeks prior to the event or a $10 late fee will be added for each routine. Any credits that were won at regionals for Top Groups have been applied to your account and you can apply these credits on the final check out page.  Please note that any gift certificates won at regionals for Overall Group, Highest Scoring Group, or Top Studio can only be redeemed towards group entry fees.

Workshop classes:

Encourage your students to take our 4 workshop classes taught by the judges for a total price of $70 if registered and paid in full two weeks in advance.  The cost is $80 after the two week deadline.  Four levels of classes are available and are based on student age (Petite 8 and under, Junior 9-11, Teen 12-14 and Senior 15 and up.) Teachers have the right to place students in a higher-level class if they choose. To register dancers for the classes, please select “Add New Routine” and choose “Nationals Convention” for the correct age group and then select dancers.  Disregard the levels for this entry type.

Observer bands will be available for purchase at the event for $20. Teachers will receive one observer band per room. Class size will be limited.  If space allows, students can register at the event for $80.

Title Competition Guidelines:

Each dancer’s solo scores of Showmanship and Overall Appeal will be pulled and the Top 10-15 (depending on participation) title finalists will be announced at the solo awards ceremony for each age group.

The finalists will participate in the Title Competition which includes Improv and an On-Stage Question. The exact times for Title competition will be released with the final schedule.

Finalists should report backstage in their dancewear for the Improv Competition 15 minutes prior to the start of the Title competition.

*No teachers or parents will be allowed backstage after their dancer is dropped off backstage.

*Once a dancer is checked in and placed in line with their group, they must stay in that line.

The Improv competition will be 2 rounds. Each dancer will be asked to improv to an upbeat song and then a slower paced song. Any genre of dance can be performed in the improv. All dancers will line up onstage and the upbeat music will be played for each dancer, one at a time. Then the slower paced song will be played for each dancer in the opposite order, one at a time.

Dancers will exit the stage and change into their on-stage question outfit while the auditor tabulates the scores.

The Improv scores will be added to the solo scores and the finalists will come back on stage for announcement of the Top 5.

The Top 5 Finalists will be called up in random order.  They will be asked to slate their name, age, where they live and one interesting fact about themselves.  They will then draw a number and questions will be asked by the judges panel directly to the dancer onstage.

Crowning will take place after the onstage question portion is completed.

Clothing requirements:

  • Dancewear of choice
  • On Stage Question outfit - This can be a dress, pants suit, jumper, etc. that shows the dancer’s personal style. Dancers will stay in this outfit for crowning.

The cost to compete for title is $50. As a reminder, there are two ways to compete for title at Encore DCS:

1) If a student competes only one solo AND enters the title competition, they will be eligible for Overall Solo and Title Winner.
2) If a student competes multiple solos AND enters one of them for title, their two highest scores will be averaged for Overall Super Solo and they will be eligible for Title Winner.
